Punk and metal music makes you calmer, new study finds
Researchers in Australia reveal that 'extreme music’ helps individuals 'process' anger
A new study has found that listening to so-called "extreme" music can have a positive effect on an individual.
Researchers at the University Of Queensland in Australia recently
investigated the theory that listening to musical genres such as heavy
metal, punk, hardcore and emo causes anger.
The study was headed by Dr Genevieve Dingle
and Honours student Leah Sharman, who used a sample of 39 regular
'extreme music' listeners.
Instead of the music increasing the individuals' anger levels, the
report found that it more commonly helped the subjects to "process
anger".
"We found the music regulated sadness and enhanced positive emotions," Sharman said, as reported by The Guardian. "When experiencing anger, extreme-music fans liked to listen to music that could match their anger."
"The music helped them explore the full gamut of emotion they felt, but also left them feeling more active and inspired."
"Results showed levels of hostility, irritability and stress decreased
after music was introduced, and the most significant change reported was
the level of inspiration they felt."
Meanwhile, heavy metal fans were recently found to be the most loyal in music, as suggested in a new study by Spotify. The study set out to measure fan loyalty by identifying "core artists" in several genres and calculating how often the average fan returned to them. Heavy metal topped the loyalty study by a significant margin, based on data from core bands including Metallica, Slayer, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Sepultura, Pantera, Cradle Of Filth and Anthrax.
agora têm que fazer um estudo semelhante com todos juntos no mesmo espaço...:)
